Mulatu Astatque w/ dj.henri

As the world has belatedly discovered the uniquely moody, funky, sophisticated sounds that blossomed in Ethiopia in the 1960s and '70s (only to be crushed and buried by the brutal Derg regime), one figure has emerged as a key creative force. Mulatu Astatque studied jazz in the U.S. and returned to Addis Ababa to help reinvent local traditions for the 20th century. All these years later, Astatque remains a vibrant innovator for our times. This is a rare opportunity to see the man and his ensemble in action. Details and tickets here.
