South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela is, without a doubt, an international treasure. Hugh was present from nearly the beginnings of South African Jazz, playing in the orchestra of the fabled “King Kong” musical, joining forces with the now-legendary Dollar Brand and Kippie Moeketsi in the groundbreaking Jazz Epistles, and finally gaining international stardom with his 1968 smash “Grazing in the Grass.”
This Saturday, we are excited to welcome the man himself back to New York City for a concert at Pace University’s Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts. AND? AND? Afropop has a pair of free tickets that it is giving away to one lucky person. Just send an email with the subject line “Hugh” and your name in the body to email@example.com. (The tickets will be available at the box office for pick up).
