New Pop Music From Guinea!

As anyone who has spent any time browsing Youtube knows, it is possible to lose hours, sometimes even days following links, watching videos, forgetting one’s purpose in life. But sometimes our Youtube excursions lead to music like this, which makes it all worth while:

Kourouma ft. Mohamed Diaby “Foudou Gnouma”:

This is the tightest stuff we’ve heard coming outta Guinea in a while! (Nice video too!) The production style is familiar, drawing on the hip-shaking digital beats and electro synths of Ivorien coupé decalé and Mali’s spin-off style decalé balani; but the singing and digi-balafon clearly draws on traditional folk styles and griot music.
