Afropop Worldwide Fall 2013 Intern Hunt

Staff writer and former intern Morgan with Femi Kuti.

Summer has somehow nearly come to an end, and our talented, dedicated summer interns will soon be leaving us almost as quickly as they came. Our valued interns are the cartilaginous backbone of the Afropop Worldwide operation, and so we are once again reaching out for the next generation of skilled, passionate people eager to connect with music from all over the world. That’s right folks- We are looking for fall interns!

As an Afropop intern, you will have responsibilities for tasks from across the organization. A single day could involve updating and monitoring our various social media presences, tending to the logistics of an upcoming event, or seeking out guest bloggers from across the globe. Sure, there will be some copying, mail prepping, filing and archiving. But these responsibilities will be balanced out by a true leadership role. We believe in giving our interns a broad experience and the freedom to use their specific talents to enhance the quality and depth of our coverage. You might even get to meet some of your favorite artists (that picture at the top of the page is of former intern/current staff writer Morgan Greenstreet with the famous Femi Kuti!).

So, are you the next Afropop Worldwide intern?

About You: You are passionate and well informed about African music and the music of the African diaspora. You are hard-working, energetic, able to work independently. Strong interpersonal and communication skills highly valued, especially prior web-writing experience. Microsoft Office Expertise, blogging (Blogger/Wordpress), social media (Twitter/Facebook) greatly appreciated. Able to work at least 2 days a week. Language skills smiled upon (French, Spanish, Portuguese). Must have strong references. Musical experience a bonus as well.

To apply for an internship position with Afropop Worldwide, send a current resume (as an attachment) and cover letter to info@afropop.org. If you think you want to? You probably want to. And if you think someone you KNOW may want to, you should probably tell them to apply.
