Afropop Worldwide travels to Johannesburg and to Cape Town to talk with veteran and emerging artists about how it feels like being a South African in 2004, ten years after South Africa achieved its freedom, and to hear their music.
We hear from internationally acclaimed jazz pianist Abdullah Ibrahim, Serafina creator Mbogeni Ngema, SA jazz diva Dorothy Masuka, pop star Thandiswa Mazwai, bass player Josh Hawks from Freshlyl Ground, hip hop artists from Skwatta Kamp, and otehrs. The soundscape goes from Zulu roots pop to hip hop to SA jazz to mbube a capella singing and beyond. |
