Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig and Chris Tomson

Vampire Weekend rocked Central Park SummerStage on Saturday, June 14 and Afropop was there!  Stormy weather didn't keep the crowd (or us) away from the show.  As Sean said (in a British accent), "What's a vampire weekend without a bloody thunderstorm?"

We got to interact with a much younger crowd not attuned (yet) to Afropop, and Santiago Felipe snapped some fantastic photos.  Vampire Weekend put on a great show, and even revealed some new material, which sounded even more Afropoppy than the tunes from their first albums.

Senior Editor Banning Eyre and Sam Rosenthal were able to go backstage and meet with Ezra Koenig, singer and guitarist for Vampire Weekend.  In the course of conversation, we found out that the band was not aware of afropop.org until we contacted them about our Africa in America 2008 show (despite speculation brought forth in a Boston Globe review of their debut album).  They have since, however, visited the site on more than one occasion!  We're sure they'll enjoy these fantastic photos by Santi...
