Khaled Interview: 2004

In December, 2004, Khaled came to Los Angeles to put the final touches on the U.S. release of his album Ya Rayi (Wrasse). He sat down with Banning Eyre and Sean Barlow for a lengthy interview, over three hours of thoughts and recollections. We’ve published the complete interview in three parts. Here are the links:

Khaled: 2004-Part 1 focuses on Khaled’s youth. He told Afropop that his whole artistic personality and conception of life was crystallized during his youth in the Algerian port city of Oran, the birthplace of rai music.

Khaled: 2004-Part 2 focuses on Khaled’s early musical career, at least that’s what we tried to focus on. Rai means opinion, and as you’ll see, Khaled has plenty of those…
Khaled: 2004-Part 3 deals with the album, Ya Rayi, and the changes he made to it for the U.S. release on Wrasse Records.
