At just 23, Dobet Gnahoré’s the biggest revelation into the world music scene thus far.  She has animated stages in Africa and Europe with her vibrant performance and powerful vocals.  As a child, Dobet was trained in the music and dance traditions of the Béte people in her native Ivory Coast by her father Boni Gnahoré, a well-known performer in West Africa. As a teenager she further immersed herself in African music, dance, theater and languages at an artist village near the capital Abidjan run by the legendary Were Were Liking, and has performed in their group Ki Yi Mbock.

Powerful singing (in Fon, Béte and Baule languages) combined with a charismatic stage presence, original choreography, and theatricality, Dobet is equally proficient with pan-African traditional percussion. In 2005 Dobet Gnaore performed her North American debut on stage at Club Soda in Montreal for the Strictly Mundial Music Festival and currently has one international release, "Ano Neko" on Contre Jour records.">
