For over fifty years, the Alma Belicena Marimba group has been traveling to villages across Belize, playing festivals and weddings with a revolving cast of musicians. Formed by Felipe Moralez, who, at 91 in 2004, was declared the oldest musician in the country of Belize, it is the longest known musical group still performing in the nation of Belize. Moralez has been playing marimba for 77 years. Three or four musicians play the marimba together, covering different ranges, and the band often performs with drums and bass.
