Sila and the Afrofunk Experience

Sila epitomizes what people love about this century's music: energy, honesty, generosity, ecstasy, and a full-tilt dedication to digging the groove until last call. Sila's music titillates the senses and people everywhere have developed a healthy appetite for his funky fusion of African rhythm, American funk, Soukous, Afrobeat, and Reggae.
As a boy growing up in a villiage in Kenya, Sila always displayed his compassion by following up with acts of good. Inspired by words from his grandmother, "Life has meaning only in the struggle," Sila continues his mission to spread compassion and lessons through his musical efforts.
While in high school, Sila began singing and performing in Nairobi for radio and television programs. Upon receiving a scholarship to study in the United States, Sila set about to find a voice and bring his music to the forefront. The results of his quest became evident with the 2006 debut release of his album The Funkiest Man in Africa: a political manifesto with a blending of Afrobeat, Funk, Reggae, Soukous, Hip Hop and Highlife.
Sila's passion for music is also juxtaposed with his dedication to children's issues; performing for benefit concerts and offering proceeds from album sales towards children's programs in Darfur, Sudan, Niger and Kenya. He's also the mastermind of the annual Afrofunk Festival in San Franciso, California, a 3-day festival that highlights artists & bands steeped in the Afrobeat and world music tradition.
With the Afrofunk Experience, an 11-piece band, Sila serves up a healthy dose of music for funk lovers, reggae aficionados and African music junkies worldwide. Drawing musical inspiration for such artists as James Brown, Jimmy Hendrix, Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley and world-renown George Clinton & the P-Funk, Sila & the Afrofunk Experience is yet another set of voices bridging Africa and America into one Funk lovefest!
