Various Artists The Bachata Legends iASO Records, 2011

By the 1980s the long-stigmatized bachata music of Dominican Republic was at last gaining respectability. Long beloved in poor and working class neighborhoods, the music was on its way to becoming one of the most beloved and widely exported genres of the Caribbean. This recording of allstars (like Ramon Cordero, Isidro Cabrera, Augusto Santos, and guitar stylist Edilio Paredes) comes form a 1980s concert series called Lunes de Amargue (loosely, "bittersweet Mondays"). Priceless performances with heart-rending vocals and bristling, fleet guitar work, and deeply sensuous grooves. Very tasty!
