Bandleader Ebo Taylor met Fela Kuti in London when both were studying jazz there in the early 1960s. A musician's musician, Taylor returned to Africa to make a spectacular fusion of jazz and West African music. He's been ovelooked too long, so it is great that reissues of his music are seeing light at the moment. This double-CD is a perfect crash course in Taylor's highlife-afrobeat fusion. Better still, the maestro is still around, and there's a hope we could see him on US stages in the future.
