The prodigal, axe-wielding son of the late Ali Farka Toure shows real artistic growth on this, his most ambitious effort in the studio to date, a blend of acoustic and electric, rocking hot and jazz cool vibes. Vieux eases into collaborations with Dave Matthews, Derek Trucks and John Scofield, and even a song recorded with Ali before his death. Despite all the visiting star power, you can feel Vieux finding his own voice in these tracks.
