Hip Deep Ghana- Music of the North and South

It’s been in the works for a while, and you’ve gotten a few hints about it in the past, but we are now excited to announce the official release of our short film “Hip Deep Ghana- Music of the North and South.” Drawn from powerful performance footage taken in Ghana by Afropop Producers Banning Eyre and Sean Barlow, the video gives its viewers a taste of the incredible musical diversity present within the West African nation.

While the video opens with a taste of that all-too-little known music of Northern Ghana, a raw-voiced style that is often linked to the roots of the American Blues, most fans of Ghanian music will be most excited about the acoustic performance footage of veteran musician and Afro-funk pioneer, Ebo Taylor. Taken at Ebo’s family home in the town of Salt Pond, it captures Ebo in an entirely different – and far more traditional- performance context than the big band for which he usually writes and plays. Powerfully interlocking percussion and call and response chants roll together, as Ebo and his family play for themselves, and our cameras.

Check it out! And stay tuned for more Hip Deep video coming soon!
